Essays on economics and economists

This book contains a collection of selected articles from the 1970–90s, written by Nobel laureate Ronald Coase (1910–2013) – the founder of a new institutional economic theory. It is made up of two parts. The first part, Economic Science, is dedicated to methodological issues in economic theory. The author shares his vision of what economic science should be, and what role it should play in the life of society. The second part, Economists, introduces Coase’s biographical research on Alfred Marshall, his memories about a number of excelling economists (A. Plant, D. Black, G. Stigler) and his time in the London School of Economics.

The book is aimed at a wide circle of readers interested in the development of economic thought.
