Afghanistan: the origins of tragedy

This book examines the origins of the Afghan tragedy, particularly the role the erroneous non-capitalist way of development played therein, also called the socialist orientation theory of developing countries which overcame colonial and semi-colonial dependence. Set as the foundation of the USSR’s foreign policy doctrine in the last decade of its existence, this theory played a fateful role in the destiny of a whole range of developing countries and revolutionary-democratic parties, and in the lives of their leaders. It also had a detrimental effect on the Soviet Union itself.
Recommended to scholars, social scientists, practitioners and specialists in international affairs, graduates and students studying Asian countries, in particular Afghanistan.
