The Dictionary of International Maritime Law is published in the Soviet Union for the first time. The appearance of the Dictionary is primarily due to the progressive expansion and intensification of maritime activities of states, caused by the objective economic and political conditions of the modern world, the increased role of the World Ocean in meeting the growing needs of mankind and each country in food, raw materials and energy sources. The dictionary includes more than 600 articles covering almost all concepts and phenomena of modern international maritime law, contains information on the main international agreements regulating maritime activities of states and international organisations operating in the sphere of development of the World Ocean. In addition, it contains basic information on the history of the international law of the sea.
