Dawn over Cuba : Notes by a journalist

Among many books about Cuba, this book was the first to tell Soviet readers about the heroic deeds of the Cuban people. The author of the book, at that time a correspondent of the newspaper Pravda, arrived in Havana immediately after the defeat of the dictatorship, when shots were still heard at night, when disguised officers and officials of the dictator still roamed the streets of the city in search of shelter, when the new revolutionary government announced its new decrees. V. Chichkov talks with Fidel Castro and Ernesto Guevara, with peasants from the village of Ikotea and workers of the sugar factory, gets acquainted with the guerrilla struggle of Cuban bearded men. More than two years have passed since the revolution triumphed. Now the Cuban people firmly hold in their hands the revolutionary conquests. But can we forget the joy of the first days of liberation, the first successes of the young Cuban Republic, when faith in a better future was born.
