This publication is dedicated to one of the smallest northern seas of Russia – the East Siberian Sea – which is part of the water area of the Arctic Ocean. The encyclopedia contains around 600 articles on hydrographic and geographic features and hydrologic characteristics of the Sea.
The most prominent natural features are presented: islands, peninsulas, rivers and their geographic features. Culture and history, towns, ports, water and biological resources, international agreements, research institutions, the work of distinguished scientists, researchers and explorers are also covered.
The encyclopedia also examines the socio-economic state and domestic potential of the regions bordering the East Siberian Sea.
Landmark events in the history of the discovery and assimilation of the East Siberian Sea from the XVII century to date are featured in a chronology.
