In the book of outstanding political figure of Cuban, Latin American and world history the second half of the XX century are discussed strategy and tactics of the insurgent guerrilla movement in Cuba, headed by the author, in the period from April 1958, when the reigning in the country's dictatorial regime launched a major offensive to eliminate the rebel hearth. The book shows how the rebels managed to repel the offensive and counter-attacked, culminating in the victory of the Cuban revolution.


In the introduction to the book Fidel Castro talks about his childhood and youth studies at the University of Havana, its formation as a revolutionary influenced by political developments in Cuba in the 1930-1950's.


When translating the book the amendments and new data entered by the author for publication in Russian were taken  into account.
